Five Ten Dragon

4.5 (12) |
Five Ten's famous Dragon is the favorite for those who love steep climbing. It features a radically down-turned toe, perforated rand rubber for a sock like fit and Stealth HF rubber on the outsole for power and friction for steep climbing. The laces secure your foot for maximum power through the toe and in heel-hooking.

this shoe is the shit for sport climbing, bouldering, and just indoor climbing as well
THESE ARE THE BEST SHOES IVE HAD. Definitely. 5 stars as well for their heel-hooking performance. Only complaint: People say that synthetic shoes don't stretch put these did, so get them a little small.
Best bouldering shoe ive owned! My ONLY complaint is its a laced shoe.. so its not great if you like to take your shoes off in between problems.
What sold me right off the bat, I have an extremely narrow, boney foot and a very high arch, and when shoe shopping, I find that a lot of shoes create hot spots, but the Dragon fits my foot perfectly, and I felt no need to upsize or downsize in order to find my perfect fit.
Then when I climbed in them, I found that for someone who primarily boulders, they are great for overhanging walls, and the toe and heel hooking abilities are awesome. I have only been climbing in these shoes for about a month or two, but so far the only complaint I have is that if you want to smear anything, it's nearly impossible to get your foot on the bare wall, unless you use the bolt holes. I know people that have had their dragons for awhile and after walking around in them and breaking them down have no problems with smearing.
Overall, a great shoe
My favorite weapon of choice...this shoe takes a while to get used to, that is, it takes a while to learn how to use it to the full extend but if once figured out, the results are amazing. I wear this shoe on anything of higher difficulty and it´s an amazing shoe. The hooking is phenomenal and you can pull on holds and footholds in steep terrain like with no other shoe. As I personally like the better fitability of a lace up over vercros or slippers, this is my all time favorite five ten. This shoe is made for overhanging rock but performed well on vertical terrain in the Valley last year as well.
Probably the best shoe ever made. Super high performance, works well on absolutely everything (minus trad - but hey, not what they are made for). I have them a half-size down from my street shoe, but of course it's different for everyone. I think this may be the most comfortable down-turned shoe in existence. I can train in them 3 hours a day, 5 days a week (even though I don't, cause I switch out shoes...but I have before) and not get tired of them. High quality rubber, high quality performance. I recommend these shoes over any other.
I didn't have much luck with the dragons. I think it is because I sized them wrong. I normally wear a 9 in climbing shoes, but for the dragons, I chose a 10 because of the aggressive downturn. That was probably a bad move on my part. After a couple of bouldering problems I noticed the heel was way more lose than I thought. I had a big pocket in the back and couldn't heel hook at all. Plus the toe of the shoe was farther out than my toes, so I couldn't get a good feel on the rock. The upside of these shoes is they are very good at gripping the rock/holds. I found them to do very well edging and I'm sure if I had the size 9's I would have loved everything about them. Moral of the story, make sure you know what size to get.
My favourite shoe. I've had one pair with te old heel (not fuly rubberized), and they performed beyond my expectations. Not only a overhanging shoe, but also on face climbs a great performer. I followed these up with the v10's which are much alike, but I preferred the dragons laces. What I've noticed is that with both shoes the slingshot heel on the inside the rubber band started to tear. I am not pleased with this and I hope 5.10 adressed this issue. I feel that 5.10 perform the bust but re not always as good contructed as say lasportiva. I hope that they continue to look at the construction of their shoes, I for one look forward to the Teams which might be a step forward in that direction
Rise and Conquer with the Dragons
I've never felt a better shoe. Main things to note are: AWESOME rubber, sweet downturned toe that's great for snagging the smallest of jibs, a heel that's not so boxy like the Anasazi so there's NO dead space (At least not for me), and they look awesome. A couple things you may want to be careful of when ordering this shoe: They're fitted really tight. I wear an 8 comfortably in the Anasazi and had to size up to a 9 in these to make them bearable for more than 10 minutes at a time. After about 6 months of use, they're holding up well and I can wear them for 30 minutes of climbing before I start to feel pain. Also, the downturned toe is not your friend when walking. If you're going to be walking around a lot in your shoes, these are gonna hurt ya. Overall Opinion: 10/10, they simply dominate.
Excellent shoe!
The dragon is a great shoe for steep bouldering and thin edging. In terms of comfort, it is definitely up there with some of the best shoes I've ever owned. I sized mine one size larger than my street shoe size (10) and felt that after breaking it in for 2 weeks, I could get a really nice snug fit. My only issue with the shoe is the heel. For me, I fit a la sportiva heel better for some reason, maybe because my heel is low volume. After heel hooking on some steep problems, I definitely did not feel like I had the best hook compared to a la sportiva solution. Otherwise, its an amazing shoe and I would recommend it for steep sport routes.
Favorite Shoe So Far
I've been climbing for ~ 4yrs now and this is my fourth pair of shoes succeeding LaSportiva Mythos, v10's and MadRock Loco's (gym shoes), respectively. I sport climb 5.12 and really enjoy the Dragon's, they are my favorite so far! They are excellent on steep, overhanging climbs and have great edging and friction. They are very similar to the v10, but in a lace up version which I prefer. I had problems with my heels popping out of the v10's while heel-hooking when my feet got sweaty. I mostly use these outside for bouldering or sport. I would recommend these shoes to anyone looking for a quality shoe to wear mostly outdoors, climbing powerful, steep, overhung sport routes or bouldering.
Dragon's are the best shoe out!
The lace up Dragon is hands down the best high performance lace up. Toe digs in pockets and excels on steep stone. On my 2nd pair, won't even think about switching shoes.
