My first pair of high or higher performance shoes from Mad Rock. I have to say that they "rock"
After one day at the crag they fit my foot like a sock. Great rubber and fit through out the shoe. I would have like more cush on the tough. I think that I will be heading back to the gym to buy a second pair this summer.

When I first got these shoes, I was not sure how they would compare to the old Mugens. After a few weeks of using them in the gym and outside, I was blown away. The new Mad Rock rubber is the stickiest rubber out there hands down. The shoes edge extremely well and dig into the smallest features and help keep you on the rock. I have used them on everything from slabs to overhangs, the shoes work on them all well. Shoes stay comfortable and tight, and do not cause any discomfort. Heel hooking is amazing in these shoes and no slipping of the heel takes place. If you are looking for a great value and an amazing shoe then give the Mugen Tech a try.

I absolutely love these shoes. I have a few pairs of shoes that I really like but these end up on my feet 90% of the time. They are some of the best all around performing shoes I have ever owned. They edge super well, they do great on steep stuff and have maintained a high level of performance for 9 months of pretty heavy use. I wear them to boulder, to sport climb, to train, to work a problem, inside, outside and for short trad routes, everything. They are comfortable enough to leave on my feet for a 2-3 hour gym session, however I wouldn't want to wear them on a multi pitch trad route. The only draw back is that they are a little stiff for smearing on slabs. It is not usually my style to do this but I want to comment on the other review of these shoes. Like the other reviewer I have been a big fan of the Mugens over the years and have had at least one of each of the shoes in the evolution. And I agree the red mugens (Jesters) are fantastic and infact Mad Rock still makes them. But these are different shoes, with different purposes, the Mugen Techs are designed to be a more technical performance shoe. They are stiffer and have a more narrow fit over all to increase edging performance, where the Jesters are soft and plush making them super comfy. The reviewers comments reinforce my personal opinion that it is not really about the shoe but about your foot and how you want to use the shoe. If you are looking for a shoe that performs extremely well in most climbing situations and has in my opinion a great comfort to performance ratio, leaning more towards the performance side, then this might be a great shoe for you. Definitely a lot of bang for the buck.

I was looking forward to trying the new Mugen Tech.....I really loved the original white mugen.......and absolutely loved the Mugen Red (not the color) but it was a fantastic shoe! So I had high hopes that I would like this new shoe even better. I am sending it back. Thoroughly disappointed. They took a fantastic shoe, made it stiffer, lined it with scratchy lining, put rubber with less "give" on it, .... I guess some people like shoes like that, but if you truely love the Mugen Red, don't get your hope up for the Mugen Tech. I found it uncomfortable, excruciating pressure points, and heel slippage.....back to the drawing board with this one. Hey, how about just going back to the Mugen Red diagram?
