Red Chili's Durango VCR is great for beginner climbers. Economical does not mean cheap, does not mean bad and does not mean uncomfortable. Red Chili has got a shoe for you that fits as well as all other shoes and provides as much sensitivity as them, but is constructed in a more simple fashion. Still it is as sturdy and technical well engineered as all other shoes. Cross my heart!

Ok, size them way down unless you are a total beginner, and even if you are a beginner I'd suggest at least 1.5 (US) sizes down from your street.. I found them for 50 bucks on gearx.com, which to me seems like a pretty good deal for a comfy gym/trad shoe that I can wear all-day with no pain. I wish I'd gone down 2.5 sizes though.

The construction of these things is like no other climbing shoe I've ever had or seen. The velcro straps are like this super burly nylon stuff, and the stitching is tripled and x'ed and all kinds of nonsense--they feel like they'll last forever. The rubber is also nice and sticky, and seems hard and durable so far. They aren't very aggressive, meaning they aren't downturned at all, have a stiff midsole, aren't very pointy and directive to the big toe for pocket-pulling, and have a somewhat loose heel.

Nice for what it's for! Recommended.
